Hobart baseball erased an early deficit and rolled to a decisive win, defeating Whiting 10–1 in non‑conference play.

The game was played Thursday, May 21, at Hobart High School.

The Oilers struck first with a run in the opening inning, but the Brickies answered quickly, scoring three in the second, two in the third, and three more in the fourth to take full control. Junior Kyle Smith powered the offense with a triple and three RBI, finishing 2‑for‑4 at the plate. Senior Gabe Gutierrez was flawless, going 3‑for‑3 with two RBI and two stolen bases to spark Hobart’s attack. Junior Brandon Stafford added two hits and an RBI, while Jon Corbin chipped in a pair of singles. Jorge Guerra and Cash Ellenberger each drove in runs, and Cristian Pimentel and Connor Kenjic also contributed to the scoring as Hobart totaled 13 hits.

On the mound, sophomore Nick Spain was dominant, striking out eight over six innings. He allowed just three hits and one unearned run while working around four walks to earn the win. Junior Jayson Scales closed the door with a strikeout in the seventh.

Hobart’s defense backed the pitching staff with error‑free play and a double play, while the Brickies swiped five bases to cap a complete team performance.
