Hobart dropped a 66-54 decision to Washington Township in a nonconference road matchup, staying within striking distance through the first half before the Senators pulled away in the second.
The game was played Jan. 27 at Washington Township High School in Valparaiso.
Hobart led 32-31 at halftime after matching the hosts quarter for quarter, scoring 16 points in both the first and second periods. Washington Township gained control in the third quarter with a 19-10 run, using defensive pressure and transition baskets to create separation. The Senators then outscored the Brickies 16-12 in the fourth quarter to maintain the double-digit margin and close out the win.
The Brickies’ balanced effort kept the contest close early, but the third-quarter surge proved decisive. Hobart continued to compete on the glass and in the half court, yet struggled to slow Washington Township’s rhythm after the break as the home team consistently converted key possessions.
Hobart’s roster features a veteran senior core in Jordan Johnson, Zabia Gildon, Erik Kingery, Ryan Basham, Malachi Johnson and Jeffery Long, supported by underclassmen Paxson Hicko, Dorian Key, Klarc Taylor, Miles White and Stephen Miller, who provided depth throughout the four quarters.
Up next, Hobart will face Valparaiso on Feb. 10 with a 7 p.m. tipoff.
The last time the Brickies met Valparaiso, Hobart dropped a 70-34 decision on Feb. 11.
