Hobart’s 2026 softball season ended with an 11-18-1 record, but the Brickies closed the year playing some of their best softball.
Before falling to Lake Central in sectional play, Hobart put together a four‑game winning streak, defeating Highland 11-4, Portage 9-3, Merrillville 19-3, and Valparaiso 7-5 — a victory that made them the IHSAA 4A Sectional 2 champions and marked one of the program’s most memorable moments of the season.
The Brickies were powered by one of the area’s most productive offenses. Aurora Ciesielski delivered a standout year, hitting .481 with a .562 on‑base percentage, seven home runs, and 12 stolen bases. Freshman Alexis Coons emerged as a major power threat, batting .302 with eight home runs and a .466 on‑base percentage. Speed played a key role as well, with Nora Hornak hitting .357 and swiping 31 bases to spark the lineup.
The season ultimately came to an end with a 10-0 sectional loss to Lake Central, snapping Hobart’s late surge.
Still, the Brickies’ strong finish, combined with the production from Ciesielski, Coons, and Hornak, provides a promising foundation for the future and optimism for what the next chapter of Hobart softball can become.
