Senior Gabe Gutierrez enters the season as one of the steadying forces for a Hobart program navigating significant roster turnover.
After the Brickies graduated nine seniors from last year’s 15–12 team, Gutierrez has taken on a larger responsibility both on the field and in the clubhouse. The veteran understands that helping younger teammates adjust to varsity expectations will be critical to the team’s success.
“We lost a lot of seniors, so we just have to work together and keep everyone focused,” Gutierrez said. “The younger guys are stepping up, and we’re trying to help them as much as we can.”
Gutierrez believes the foundation laid by last year’s group still shapes the program’s identity, even as new players move into prominent roles. Maintaining that culture, he said, starts with effort and communication.
“Those guys showed us how to compete every day,” Gutierrez said. “Now it’s on us to keep that standard going.”
Hobart showed flashes of potential last season despite its youth, finishing third in the NCC and competing closely in several conference games. Gutierrez hopes that experience, combined with offseason development, will allow the Brickies to take a step forward.
