Hobart baseball coach Bobby Wineland discussed his second season leading the program and the challenges of rebuilding after losing nine seniors.
Wineland reflected on last year’s 15–12 finish, which ended with a tough sectional loss to Valparaiso. He explained that while the team lost significant senior leadership, the returning juniors and sophomores have stepped up. That transition, he noted, has been smoother because younger players learned from the example set by last year’s seniors.
“The transition part for this year was, I think, a lot of my younger guys that were with us learned a lot from them,” Wineland said. “Nine seniors, the transition was really easy this year, the guys have bought in a lot more.”
He emphasized that the lessons from those Brickies seniors raised expectations for the current roster, helping younger players understand the level of competition and work ethic required.
“They seen the competition. They seen how hard the seniors worked last year, so the expectation is pretty high for them,” Wineland added.
As he enters his second year, Wineland is focused on building cohesion and leadership within a youthful squad. With returning experience and a strong group of underclassmen, he believes Hobart baseball is positioned to grow and compete at a higher level this season.
