0Comments

Hobart delivered a dominant performance in girls wrestling sectional competition, capturing the team championship with multiple title runs and consistent scoring across the lineup.

The IHSAA Girls Sectional took place on Jan. 2 at Hobart High School.

Hobart’s depth was on display throughout the event, with several wrestlers advancing deep into their brackets and piling up team points in both championship and placement rounds. Joanna Cantu opened the scoring with a first-place finish at 100 pounds, while Corabella Wesley added another title at 125. Julia Helminski claimed first at 135, followed by Gaby Robles at 155, Miley Fifer at 190, and Lena Raygoza at 235, giving Hobart six sectional champions.

The Brickies also received strong contributions from runners-up Alexis Rodriguez at 105, Addy Hendricks at 140, Naomi Cap at 145, and Bailey Varella at 170. Ashley DeBusk placed fourth at 110, Maddie Lams finished fourth at 115, and Nora Hornak added a fifth-place finish at 120, further strengthening the team total.

The combination of championship titles, finals appearances, and placement finishes allowed Hobart to separate itself from the field and secure the sectional crown on its home mats.

Hobart will continue postseason competition on Jan. 16 at 3 p.m. at the IHSWCA Girls State Finals.
