Hobart boys wrestling delivered a strong overall performance at the IHSAA Boys Wrestling Sectional, finishing with 211.5 team points and showcasing depth, balance and consistency throughout the lineup against a competitive field.
The sectional tournament took place Jan. 31 at Portage High School, where Hobart advanced multiple wrestlers deep into the bracket and crowned five individual champions.
The Brickies scored consistently across weight classes, placing wrestlers in both finals and consolation rounds to secure one of their strongest postseason showings. Hobart’s sectional champions included Jacoby Moore at 138 pounds, Hayden Mancilla at 165, Aiden Granger at 175, Preston Perez at 215, and Josh Diaz at 285. Each wrestler earned first-place finishes, anchoring the Brickies’ scoring output and providing momentum throughout the tournament.
Additional points came from Aleksandar Tatum, who added a second-place finish at 190 pounds, and Zach Felty, who placed third at 157 to further strengthen Hobart’s team total.
Depth across the lineup continued to be a key factor, as Blake Doeing (113), Jaxson Candiano (126), Jim Janda (132) and Ian Kelly (150) all placed to contribute valuable points. The collective effort highlighted Hobart’s preparation and competitiveness as the postseason progresses.
