The Hobart boys basketball team earned a 49–44 victory over Wheeler in a nonconference matchup.
The game was played Jan. 13 at Wheeler High School in Valparaiso, Indiana, as the Brickies held off a late push by the Bearcats to secure the five-point road win.
Hobart built a narrow advantage through the first half and maintained control with balanced scoring and steady defensive pressure across all four quarters. The Brickies executed in half-court sets and limited Wheeler’s second-chance opportunities, while converting key baskets in the fourth quarter to preserve the lead. Hobart’s senior leadership helped guide the closing stretch, with the backcourt controlling tempo and the frontcourt providing physicality in the paint.
The Brickies are led by senior captain Jordan Johnson, along with a veteran senior class that includes Zabia Gildon, Erik Kingery, Ryan Basham, Malachi Johnson and Jeffery Long. The group provided experience on both ends of the floor, with Kingery and Gildon handling ball duties, Basham and Malachi Johnson supplying perimeter scoring, and Long anchoring the interior.
Up next, Hobart will travel to Hammond Morton for a conference matchup scheduled for Jan. 30 with a 7 p.m. tipoff.
The last time the two teams met, Hammond Morton defeated Hobart 59–48 on Jan. 31 in a home contest.
