Hobart’s boys wrestling team placed fifth overall at the Northwest Crossroads Conference Championships, highlighted by one individual champion and multiple podium finishes across the lineup.
The conference tournament was held Saturday, Jan. 17, at Lowell High School, bringing together teams from across the NCC to compete for individual titles and team points.
Preston Perez led the Brickies with a conference championship at 215 pounds. Jacoby Moore earned a runner-up finish at 138, and Josh Diaz added a second-place showing at 285 to give Hobart two finalists. Diego Irizarry placed fourth at 157, while Julian Diaz (113), Jaxson Candiano (126), Jim Janda (132), Ian Kelly (144), Kane McCullough (165), and Fernando Robles Jr. (175) each recorded fifth-place finishes. Shawn Corle finished sixth at 150, and Ryder Goodpaster placed sixth at 190. Hobart recorded a forfeit at 120 and did not place at 106.
The Brickies totaled 128 team points, securing fifth place in the final team standings and showing depth throughout the middle and upper weight classes.
Up next, Hobart will compete in the IHSAA Sectional on Jan. 31 at Portage High School, with wrestling scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.
