Hobart built a big lead and then held off a late Highland charge Tuesday, as the Brickies earned a 9-7 baseball conference win over the Trojans.

The game took place on May 12 at Highland High School.

Hobart got its offense moving right away, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Brandon Stafford doubled to center field to bring in a run, and Alex Mays followed with an RBI single down the left field line. Mays delivered the biggest swing of the game in the third, launching a three-run home run to left field as the Brickies stretched their lead. He later added another run-scoring single in the fourth and finished 4-for-4 with five RBIs to lead Hobart’s 15-hit attack.

Caledonio Pimentel also had a strong day at the plate, collecting four hits for the Brickies. Stafford and Connor Kenjic each added multiple hits as Hobart built a 9-2 lead through four innings.

Highland answered with a late push, scoring three runs in the sixth, but Gabe Gutierrez helped the Brickies secure the win after allowing three unearned runs over 3 1/3 innings while striking out three.
