Hobart’s Unified Track & Field squad excelled at Saturday’s IHSAA Sectional in Valparaiso, piling up points across every event to capture the team championship.
The Brickies finished with 145 points, well ahead of Griffith (104) and Kankakee Valley (101), securing their fourth straight trip to Regionals.
In the long jump, Junior Layla Henley soared to 5‑00.00, winning her flight, while junior Brooke Hawkins added a runner‑up mark of 8‑00.00. Sophomore Alex Mosier leapt 12‑04.00 to win his flight, and senior Jayden Garrett capped the event with a flight‑winning jump of 14‑10.50.
Momentum carried into the shot put, where Hobart stacked points. Junior Clark Otero opened with a winning toss of 15‑02.50, senior Bryce Kennard hit 18‑02.50, freshman Cayden Kennard reached 22‑02.50, and junior Odin Williams added 37‑01.00, all placing well in their flights.
On the track, Henley sprinted to a 17.30 in the 100m for first in her section, while senior Olivia McIntire and junior Zayden Syler scored in their heats. In the 400m, freshman Gwen Zomanty ran 1:30.49 to win her section, and sophomore Jacob Santiago (1:23.37) and senior Delaney Williams (1:26.81) went 1‑2 in theirs.
The Brickies sealed the title by winning both 4×100 relays, underscoring their depth and teamwork. Hobart advanced to the Regional at NorthWood High School with championship momentum.
