Key confident as Hobart builds experience in Year 2

0Comments

Hobart enters the 2025-26 season with rising confidence under second-year head coach Devon Key, aiming to turn last year’s competitive strides into consistent results.

The Brickies will open their season on December 13 at home against River Forest, with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m. at Hobart High School.

According to Key, last winter, Hobart leaned heavily on first-time varsity contributors but remained competitive throughout conference play. He said that experience was critical in preparing his group for the next step, noting the team’s focus this offseason on eliminating mid-game lapses that cost them close matchups a year ago. Conditioning, accountability, and leadership have been emphasized since the summer as Hobart pushes toward a stronger finish in the Northwest Crossroads Conference.

Senior leaders Ryan Basham and Jordan Johnson return after four years in the program under Key’s guidance. Both players said the goal is to set the standard daily — communicating, staying aggressive, and carrying intensity from tip-off through the final possession. With six seniors on the roster and younger players following their example, Basham and Johnson believe their improved physicality and maturity will show early.

Hobart’s culture remains rooted in effort, toughness, and pride in representing the program each night as expectations rise.
