The Hobart boys basketball team earned a 55-49 road win over Kankakee Valley in a competitive conference matchup.
The game took place Feb. 5 at Kankakee Valley High School, where Hobart used balanced scoring and steady execution to pull away late. The Brickies were tied 10-10 after the first quarter before outscoring the Kougars 16-9 in the second to take a 26-19 halftime lead.
Erik Kingery led Hobart with 21 points, providing consistent offense throughout the night and converting key free throws down the stretch. Stephen Miller added 10 points and controlled the paint with physical play on both ends, while Paxson Hicko contributed 11 points along with several rebounds and assists that helped Hobart maintain momentum. Jordan Johnson and Zabia Gildon also played key roles defensively as the Brickies rotated effectively and limited Kankakee Valley’s scoring opportunities.
Kankakee Valley made a push in the third quarter, trimming the deficit, but Hobart responded with timely baskets and strong defensive possessions to keep control. The Brickies matched the Kougars in the fourth quarter and closed out the game at the free-throw line to secure the six-point win.
Up next, Hobart hosts Highland on Feb. 20 with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. The last time the teams met, Hobart earned a 55-45 win on the road at Highland.
