Hobart Boys Wrestling competed at the IHSAA Boys Semi-State at East Chicago Central, highlighted by Hayden Mancilla’s third-place finish at 165 pounds.
The semi-state was held Feb. 14 at East Chicago Central High School.
Mancilla, a senior, finished 3-1 in the 165-pound bracket. He opened the tournament with a fall in 1:13 in the championship round of 16 before earning an 8-7 decision in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals. After dropping a major decision in the semifinal round, Mancilla rebounded in the third-place match with a 9-3 decision to secure a podium finish and 15 team points. He controlled the pace in the consolation final, using strong positioning and late takedowns to seal the win.
Jacoby Moore (138), Aiden Granger (175), Aleksandar Tatum (190), Preston Perez (215) and Josh Diaz (285) also represented the Brickies at semi-state. Each competed in a deep bracket against regional qualifiers, gaining valuable experience at one of Indiana’s most competitive postseason levels while facing seasoned opponents from across the state.
Hobart’s semi-state appearance reflected the program’s continued presence in the upper levels of postseason wrestling. Mancilla’s third-place performance capped his senior campaign with a strong showing on one of the state’s biggest stages and highlighted Hobart’s resilience throughout the postseason.
