Hobart High School’s football team, under the leadership of head coach Eric Schreiber, is preparing for its second season with optimism. Schreiber expressed confidence in the team’s progress, stating that they are “ahead of schedule.”
According to Schreiber, last year’s start was challenging with a one-and-two record. However, he noted improvements in physicality and pride. “Going into year two now, we’ve got a lot coming back,” Schreiber said. He highlighted that many young players gained experience last season and that seniors and juniors have assumed leadership roles.
Schreiber explained that preparations for the new season began soon after their playoff exit last November. “We started our weight training program shortly after the season,” he said, adding that the team is eager and ready for the challenges ahead.
The Brickies will face Chesterton in their opening game before embarking on a demanding Northwest Crossroads Conference (NCC) schedule. Schreiber stressed the importance of maintaining focus: “We’re taking it one week at a time.”
Senior players Logan Peters and Max Pickett are determined to make an impact this season. Peters expressed his desire to leave a lasting legacy: “I want to leave a legacy people remember in 10 years.” Pickett spoke about the motivation drawn from Hobart’s storied history: “We’re expected to win at Hobart,” he said. He aims to be the leading rusher in the conference and help elevate the team back to prominence.
